InterLibrary Loans FAQ

What Are InterLibrary Loans?

Did you know that you can request a copy of a book that is not found in your library through loan of another library? Library borrowers can request materials and it does not cost anything, except the amount for postage or any photocopying. The books or other materials are sent to the library of choice and the borrower is notified when their loan has been received. Some libraries have the ability to use ILLiad, an online InterLibrary Loan service that allows users to request materials without having to leave home.

ILLiad gives users the ability to:

  • Track requests online
  • Email and communicate with ILLiad Staff
  • Look at checked out items and request renewals
  • Request materials 24-7
  • Look at past and current ILLiad requests

If My Library has ILLiad, What Do I Do Next?

ILLiad will require users to create a login the first time you want to request an InterLibrary Loan. It may look similar to this setup: Florida International University ILLiad Login

Make sure you wait 1 business day for your username and password to become activated, and then you can get started on your loan requests. Once your activation is complete, here is a quick overview, in text, of what to expect when you use ILLiad for the first time: How To Use ILLiad
